Citrus Sweets Cupcake Review

At The HK HUB, we are on a mission to find Hong Kong’s tastiest cupcake – it’s a tough job, but we are up for the challenge! What is the perfect cupcake? It needs to have just the right balance between rich, moist cake, not too fluffy and light with a sweet, but not overly saccharine icing.

The search has so far turned up some good, some bad and some down-right awful, but most recently we were lucky enough to sample a few of the cupcakes from Citrus Sweets.  Located in TST, but offering delivery across HK/New Territories, Citrus Sweets was started as a home based business by Hema Sakhrani and the rapidly expanding bakery now provides a varied selection of fully customisable cupcakes, cake-pops, birthday cakes and cookies.

For our taste test, we sampled the carrot cake, red velvet and the chocolate. The cakes were all wonderfully moist and dense, without being overly heavy. The standout was definitely the perfectly spiced and deliciously flavourful carrot.

The chocolate was rich, moist and satisfyingly chocolatey and the sumptuous red velvet had a good flavour, which was complemented by the vanilla icing. Unlike other cupcake suppliers, the quantity of buttercream didn’t overpower any of the cupcakes – there was just the right amount to provide that sweet finish, without being overly sugary. Overall, very impressive cupcakes, and definitely up there with the best we’ve had in Hong Kong.

If you have an event or party to cater and you are looking at cake options, then have a look at the wide selection on offer at Citrus Sweets. We definitely know who we’ll be contacting next time we need a cupcake fix! Cupcakes start at $15 per cake, with a minimum order of 6. For more details, visit the website, Facebook page or email
