Clockenflap, Hong Kong’s biggest music and arts festival, have revealed their full lineup and complete list of attractions for this year’s event and we can’t contain our excitement!
Clockenflap has six distinctive stages to choose from, so you’ll never have to worry about finding something you’re into during the festival. There truly is something to delight any type of music lover. This year 100 international, regional and local acts will perform, including 51 new acts that haven’t been a part of the Clockenflap lineup in the past.
The festival brings several internationally-renowned acts to Hong Kong including New York Indie Band Interpol, former frontman of the Talking Heads – David Byrne, British indie legend Jarvis Cocker and Grammy-nominated duo, Amadou & Mariam.
Back by popular demand following their raucous 2014 Clockenflap debut, London-based garage rockers The Vaccines will lead the indie invasion at this year’s festival, closely followed by 2018 Mercury Prize-winning genre-benders Wolf Alice and dreampop trio, Cigarettes After Sex.
On the other hand, if you’re into Hong Kong’s local music scene, you’ll be glad to know that the acclaimed all-female, math-folk-rock group 雞蛋蒸肉餅GDJYB is returning to the Clockenflap lineup. Other local bands which will rock the stage include the controversial hip-hop collective The Low Mays, and post-hardcore-influenced five-piece Instinct Of Sight.
Did you know that Clockenflap is about much more than just music? Throughout the festival you’ll find a myriad of interactive installations, Instagram-friendly spots and weird and wonderful experiences that are a whole lot of fun. Festival favourite Silent Disco Powered by FWD Max is back and there’s also Club Max by FWD where Clockenflappers can enjoy offbeat, cabaret-style performances during the day and the coolest DJs plus glowing dancers once the sun goes down. Enjoy magic performances, dance, comedy, circus acts and even a yoga workshop so you won’t have to forego your fitness routine while at Clockenflap.
With all of that fun, you’ll definitely want to make time to eat, drink and chill and Clockenflap won’t let you down. More than 20 handpicked vendors offer a wide selection of cuisines at the Food Bazaar and you can wash it all down with a signature Red Bull mixed drink or sample a refreshing HK Yau craft beer.
For those with kids, the festival has something for you too, the Acorn/Robot Stage at Future Fields will once again host a range of daytime, family-friendly activities such as close-up magic, circus acts, yoga, and creative arts and music workshops with the Children’s Discovery Museum. Your kids will also enjoy a selection of family-friendly performances from the likes of local kids entertainment favourites Rumple & Friends and much-loved UK children’s songs performer Nick Cope.
