Amidst the COVID-19 upheaval in 2020, Agnes Chin, director of Complete Deelite, sensed an opportunity to help spread joy and hope in a time when it was sorely needed. She partnered with Jo Soo-Tang, an NGO advisor, fellow cooking aficionado, and mother to three, to create Cookie Smiles, an online fundraising platform.

Cookie Smiles is a social enterprise under the Edible Artists Global Academy Association (EAGAA). Each year they support 2 charities via fundraising, offer training opportunities for the disadvantaged and provide jobs for the physically impaired.

Their mission is to support the disadvantaged and bring joy to the world with one of the greatest comfort foods ever created – the cookie.

From Redundancy to Successful Bakers

Cookie Smiles Cookies

Cookie Smiles cookies are baked by apprentice bakers, Ah Mei and Wei Wei. The duo, now both in their mid to late 50’s were both made redundant during the 2008 financial crisis and again in 2011. They’ve flourished in their new positions as do-it-all bakers at Cookie Smiles.

From not being able to differentiate the different types of flours, to learning how to master all kinds of specialized ingredients, Ah Mei and Wei Wei have proven that redundancy and despondency is only a frame of mind.
