We sample Central’s new vegetarian dining option, VEDA
VEDA is a newly opened vegetarian restaurant on the ground floor of the Ovolo hotel on Arbuthnot Road.
Chef Hetty McKinnon has curated a vegetarian menu packed with fresh, healthful ingredients and delicious Asian flavours. There are many vegan-friendly and gluten free options available too. The menu is designed for family-style sharing, but smaller portions are available if that’s not your thing.
The Food
We started with the Nepalese ricotta and spinach momos with smoked chilli, tomato achaar ($78). There was just enough chilli in the sauce to balance the sweetness of the roasted tomatoes, and it paired extremely well with those yummy dumplings! This was a stand out dish that we definitely recommend.
The powerful flavours of the corn khichdi with wild mushroom curry, tumeric, garam masala, green peas ($78 small / $130 large) were just what we were craving. We loved the presentation of this dish, and it had plenty of spice and a great mix of textures.
We also tried the za’atar roasted carrots with kale, quinoa and blood orange, maple dressing ($58 for small / $98 for large). The za’atar roasted carrots were tasty and we certainly felt virtuous while digging into all that nourishing goodnesss, but personally we would have preferred a more robust dressing.
We were going to call it a day at that, but were persuaded to try the dark sponge cake with passion fruit mousse, and we’re so glad we did. This dish had an eye-catchingly pretty presentation, and the passion fruit mousse was delightful!
The Verdict
VEDA has a convenient location and a nice price point. We liked the creative menu and diverse choice on offer. Overall the food at VEDA was delicious and we’ll certainly be back!
