Every child has the potential to achieve greatness, but how they reach this stage differs for each individual. Stamford American School – Hong Kong understands that every student is unique and has different learning styles and needs, and progresses at a different pace from their peers. Stamford therefore takes a significant departure from the traditional classroom structure of a ‘one-size-fits-all’ model and ensures every child succeeds through delivering individualised learning plans.

Located centrally in Ho Man Tin, Kowloon, Stamford is opening its Hong Kong campus for children ages 5 to 18 years old following the huge success of its sister school in Singapore (Stamford American International School Singapore), which today has a vibrant community of over 3,000 students from 70 countries, and where 90% of graduates are accepted to their first choice university. The two Stamford schools are also a part of Cognita, a global schools network comprising over 65 world-class schools worldwide.

As with the Singapore campus, Stamford in Hong Kong is committed to its vision of leading every individual to achieve more than they believe they can. Stamford offers an academically rigorous standards-based curriculum based on the American Education Reaches Out (AERO) and Common Core Plus standards. In Grades 11 and 12, students have a choice of studying from a selection of over 40 International Baccalaureate Diploma Program (IB DP) courses to prepare them for success in higher education upon graduating from Stamford.

Commencing from the youngest students in Pre-Primary (Kindergarten), students in Stamford undergo standardized Measures of Academic Progress® (MAP®)  twice a year. Administered each Fall and Spring, these results are benchmarked according to U.S. and International norms to determine each student’s instructional level, allowing teachers to deliver learning plans and measure students’ academic growth throughout the school year, and from year to year. Students in Pre-Primary through Grade 10 participate in the MAP® Math and Reading assessments, and students in Grades 3 through 9 participate in the MAP® Science assessments.

This individualised learning philosophy extends even to Stamford’s reading program. Mastering reading skills from a young age is not only crucial for reaching milestones in language and communication, but also linked to higher academic performance across math, science and social concepts. All students from Pre-Primary (Kindergarten) through Grade 5 will undergo regular in-class reading assessments through the Fountas & Pinnell Benchmark Assessment System (BAS). These assessments allow teachers to deliver individualised reading programs based on each child’s reading level, as well as to determine and report on the literacy growth of each student during the academic year. Stamford is proud to have every classroom equipped with its own library of over 1,000 fiction and non-fiction books, giving students access to a wealth of books and resources at their fingertips.

In the sciences, Stamford offers a problem-based STEMinn (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math & Innovation) Program from age 5 to challenge students in these disciplines through critical thinking and real-world application. Laying strong foundations in these disciplines prepares Elementary students for success in the highly challenging Physics, Biology and Chemistry courses offered in Secondary. Through this unique STEMinn Program, Stamford produces creative thinkers ready for their careers as engineers, scientists, entrepreneurs and business leaders.

With a vibrant international community, Stamford is also a school that believes that being multilingual is a key element of global citizenship. Stamford offers students a choice of either daily Chinese or Spanish, or a bilingual program in Chinese English. Lastly, Stamford is pleased to introduce the prestigious Global Mentor Program from its Singapore campus, which has seen the likes of Nobel Laureates, Olympic Medallists and World Record Swimmers engage with and inspire Stamford students to pursue excellence. The Hong Kong campus will similarly be inviting the world’s most inspirational minds, industry leaders, artists and athletes to meet with and motivate students to achieve more than they believe they can.
