Buddhist Fat Ho Memorial College – Founded in 1977, BFHMC is run by the Hong Kong Buddhist Association and sponsored by Po Lin Monastery. Situated in Tai O, it was the first co-ed secondary school on Lantau Island. They offer full English Medium of Instruction (EMI) and Chinese Medium of Instruction (CMI) streams. Bui O Public School – Cantonese instruction with English offered as a subject.  P1 through P6 students excel at this campus in all areas of studies.  Curriculum includes music, PE, visual arts and computers in addition to the Reading, Mathematics and General studies. Lantau International School – The LIK/LIS academic program is based on the British National Curriculum and SAT examination system. The syllabus includes work on local history, geography, and traditions of the people of Hong Kong. While the primary language is English, Mandarin is also compulsory for all the years. Apart from academics, LIS prides itself on its location and takes full advantage of its surroundings with outdoor PE lessons. Little Lantau Montessori Kindergarten provides quality K1-K3 education in Mui Wo. They also offer accompanied and unaccompanied playgroups for the little ones.  The children enjoy a bright and spacious classroom setting filled with naturally made toys, and teaching materials characteristic of Montessori classrooms around the world. Other Worlds Learning Services – is a primary school and kindergarten providing for K1 through P6.  They offer two bilingual programs, English/Mandarin and English/Cantonese with qualified, caring, experienced teachers.  They have an excellent student to teacher ratio at 10 students to 1 teacher.  The spacious classrooms are well equipped, have computers and library.  OWLS follow UK National Curriculum and HK Local Curriculum. Things to do – Attractions, Facilities and Entertainment

South Lantau has become a tourist destination with places of interested including Silver Mine Bay, Silver Mine Cave and Silver Mine Waterfall.  The Silver Mine Bay Beach is a very nice swimming place for families.  The beach is named after an abandoned silver mine cave among the historic ruins on Lantau was discovered there.  These areas provide beautiful scenery.  You can also visit Man Mo Temple, Pak Tai Temple and Hung Shing Temple.

Pui O Beach can be reached from Mui Wo by taking the bus no. 1 or no. 4.  This beach is known for its smooth, fine sand and clear water.  It is shallow for a great distance, so wonderful beach for young children to play.  Campsites and showering facilities are also available.  You can rent water-sport equipment for the day.

Treasure Island offers surf camps during the summer holidays and year round corporate team building events. In the same complex as Treasure Island, Maverick’s Restaurant is open Friday, Saturday and Sundays.

Cheung Sha Beach’s coastal scenery and surrounding mountain views provide a relaxed atmosphere.  The beach has changing rooms and showers.  With three restaurants to choose from, you can make a day at the beach in comfort and style.    Water-sport equipment is available for rent.  High Tide Thai Restaurant, and Lantana Italian Bistro provide excellent food with amazing sea views!

Palm Beach is located in Cheung Sha is a playground for outdoor activities.  They have a variety of watersport activities on offer.  You can simply rent the equipment or take a lesson.  Palm Beach has a Teepee Village, The Palm Beach Club, BBQ areas, camping, group activities and party facilities.  This is a great place to get away from it all!

Tong Fuk Beach is beautiful with lovely views and soft sand.  Showers are available.  Convenient public transport services.

Shui Hau Wan Beach is a lovely bay that is extremely popular for kite boarding or kite surfing.  The best time to catch the windy season is from March to June, although November is good too.  There are no facilities at this beach, so make sure to bring your food and drinks with you.

South Lantau Country Park is a hikers dream and is 56.4 km2  in area.  It is the largest country park in Hong Kong and includes Lantau Peak, Sunset Peak, Yi Tung Shan, Fan Lau, Shek Pik Reservoir and Chi Ma Wan Peninsula.

Attractions Around the Area

Ngong Ping 360 and Wisdom Path: Ngong Ping 360’s 30-minute cable car journey provides wraparound views of the surrounding landscape. The nearby Wisdom Path features an arrangement of 38 vertical wooden beams, each one inscribed with Chinese characters. Together, these 8-10m columns recall the best-known Buddhist prayer Heart Sutra.

The Big Buddha and Po Lin Monastery: Sitting 34 metres high, the majestic Tian Tan Buddha statue (or Big Buddha) attracts devotees from all over the world. Opposite, the historic Po Lin Monastery is one of Hong Kong’s most important Buddhist sanctuaries and includes a scenic garden.

Citygate Outlets Mall: The nearby Citygate Outlets Mall in Tung Chung is home to over 80 international brand names offering year-round discounts of up to 70%. There is also a cinema complex in Citygate with the nearest 4D cinema located at Hong Kong Airport Terminal.

Hong Kong Disneyland and Inspiration Lake: Hong Kong Disneyland offers live shows, thrilling rides and the opportunity for children of all ages to meet all their favorite Disney characters. Two hotels are also located within the Disneyland Park. Inspiration Lake is a 15-minute walk from Disneyland and has the largest artificial lake in Hong Kong with facilities including paddle boats, bike hire, a jogging track and a children’s playground.

Peng Chau: Dotted with centuries-old buildings and winding paths, Peng Chau Island is accessible by a regular ferry service from DB. Whilst less than a square kilometer in size, the hike up to Finger Hill and the picturesque Tin Hau Temple plus the local wet market make the island a worthy place to visit.

Trappist Monastery: Built in 1955, the monastery is home to the Roman Catholic Monks who originate from the Cistercian Order or Trappists. The original monks earned their money by milking cows and selling the milk. Trappist Milk is still sold today and remains a well-known local brand.
