What’s New: Restaurants
The newest concept in the “Lee” family of restaurants (Lee Lo Mei and Lee Ho Sing), Miss Lee, has opened its doors on the Sheung Wan corner of Wellington Street. Presenting modern Chinese vegetarian cuisine, Miss Lee combines thoughtful cooking techniques with everyday natural ingredients, to take guests on a healthy culinary adventure. The menu is broken up into different “Miss” categories, like “Miss Canape”, “Miss Bijou”, “Miss Mighty”, and “Miss Sweety”. Miss Lee also features a lunchtime takeaway counter where you can grab a salad or set lunch for only HK$68 and a range of health-driven smoothies and fresh juices. Mains on the menu include dishes such as Fungi Farm; a warm pearl barley risotto served with porcini and chanterelle mushrooms in a creamy black truffle sauce, topped with parmesan crisps.

Well-known Michelin-starred restaurant Amelia hailing from San Sabastian, Spain is bringing its brand to Harbour City. Shortly after Amelia’s success, chef/owner Paulo Airaudo opened Da Terra in London and also received a Michelin star after only 8 months. Airaudo is working with Head Chef Son Pham (formerly of Co Thanh and Madame Ching in Hong Kong) to develop a rotating European menu full of Asian influences. Needless to say, given Airaudo’s impressive restaurant background, we can’t wait to try Amelia.

Venezuelan chef Ricardo Chaneton is best known for his time at Mirazur in France and then at Hong Kong’s Petrus at Island Shangri-La. Chaneton, along with JIA Group, have just opened MONO, a contemporary French fine dining restaurant that focuses on an ingredient-driven seasonal tasting menu alongside wines from Burgundy and Bordeaux. This 30-seat restaurant offers diners the option to sit in the main dining room, perfect for larger parties, or at the chef’s counter for a more intimate experience.

5/F, 18 On Lan Street, Central
From the team behind one of Hong Kong’s favourite burger joints, Beef & Liberty, comes a new venture: Emmer Pizzeria & Cafe. Located in Pacific Place, the name ‘Emmer’ comes from the ancient organic grain which they blend with rye and Italian flour. These hand-selected grains are lower in gluten, and higher in nutrients like antioxidants, vitamins and minerals. Expect all the classics you know and love, like margherita, parma, diavola, and more. Although the focus at Emmer is certainly on the pizza, you can also pop in for breakfast, available until 3:00 pm daily.

Although there’s no shortage for sushi restaurants in Hong Kong, we’re excited about this new omakase sushi restaurant that has just opened up in the beautiful heritage building of House 1881. The Araki offers visitors an intimate dining experience, with just 12 counter seats enabling you to interact with Chef Mitsuhiro Araki. Araki is the only Japanese chef to have achieved 3 Michelin stars in both Tokyo and London. Expect an Edomae style of sushi at The Araki, which emphasises the use of fresh, locally-caught seafood.

Following the opening of the dinner-time only The Leah, helmed by James Sharman, comes its daytime sister; Leah Cafe. You can expect a similar concept to the menu found at The Leah; plenty of pies that are served all day long with a selection of Asian-inspired pies, including beef and sesame, and roast Sichuan chicken pie. Leah Cafe will also be open for breakfast where you can pop in for a casual coffee and pastry or a heartier British breakfast. Leah Cafe will be open until 7:00 pm daily, right up until The Leah opens for dinner.

The well-known Belgium beer house has just opened its doors in Kowloon for the first time, marking its fifth location in Hong Kong. The new interior decor keeps in theme with the classic FRITES atmosphere styled after traditional 1920’s Belgian beer halls with high ceilings, rustic tables and stain glass windows. FRITES will serve up all of your favourites: excellent craft beer, large portions, a great happy hour, and kids amenities (including a kids menu and play area). One of the unique features of this new location is an outdoor space where you can enjoy your food and drink.

Fans of the famous burger joint that was recently introduced in Wan Chai and then K11 Musea will be excited to hear that they’ve just opened a new location on Queen’s Road Central, making getting your Five Guys fix that much easier. Whether you go for the hotdogs, burgers that you can load with as many free toppings as you can fit your hands around, the classic milkshakes, or their addictive fries, we gladly welcome their third restaurant to the city.

What’s New: Bars
Tucked away in the Pottinger Hotel and behind closed doors at ROOM 309 is where you’ll find the “Birder’s Lodge” – a bird whisperer’s secret hideout, inviting guests for a fantastical “bird-watching” experience. Enter the lodge and ask Executive Mixologist Antonio Lai and Bar Manager Hungie Fong, and the expert team of “bird whisperers” about the tips for birdwatching. The cocktails available on this menu all take inspiration from little winter birds and earthy scents from the forest floor. Try the Irish whiskey-based Little Robin (HK$140), made using Redbreast 12 Year Old, porcini mushroom liqueur, Amaro Montenegro, and umami bitters, boasting flavours complex and savoury, earthy and spicy aromas, just in time for this season.
