Table Talk: Review of The Kinnet Café
The Kinnet Café, located in Sheung Wan is an open, friendly space perfect for meeting friends, business colleagues, and family for a quick bite or grabbing take-away.
The selection of healthy options in the area is a welcome addition to the growing number of cafés serving consciously prepared food. The Kinnet stands out for its sourcing of ingredients, choosing the best methods of food preparation combined with a lovely atmosphere including a beautiful outdoor space with a living garden wall. It’s a peaceful sanctuary amongst the busy action of Hong Kong.
Open everyday from 7:30am-8:30pm (except Sunday) the café serves all-day breakfast, fresh cold pressed juices and a range of organic, hot healthy foods. We were impressed by the thoughtful selection of dishes and procurement of ingredients such as organic chicken, in-house smoked bacon and the range of standard gluten-free options served every day.
As always, if you have specific allergies or dietary requirements, it is always a good idea to call or e-mail ahead. The Kinnet is more than happy to meet requests and understands the need to separate ingredients and take particular caution with dietary requests.
Chef Singh prepared a range from the menu including a simple pumpkin and carrot soup, roasted organic chicken with the tofu, kale salad and roasted vegetables, quinoa and sweet corn cakes and the new breakfast addition, Shakshuta baked egg.
We also sampled three of the set juice options including the Veggie Delight, Acai Berry and Chia Green. This delightful indoor/outdoor café definitely has a range of food to satisfy everyone. Vegetarians have more than enough dishes to choose from including the delightfully delicious quinoa and sweet corn cakes that comes with three sides – avocado salsa, salsa fresca and the lemon and cumin yoghurt. Gluten-free diners can enjoy almost the entire menu!
The café is part of a three-story fitness centre and community building. It’s a revolutionary concept targeting retired individuals to live a better quality of life for a longer. Touching on three core areas of physical, mental and emotional wellness, The Kinnet has a holistic approach towards ‘active ageing’. Classes include Zumba, yoga, pilates, and aerobics in addition to exploring other activities such as watercolour, Chinese flower painting and much more. The schedule is updated every week. The Kinnet also plans and encourages specialists to come and talk about active aging discussing issues such as food, health, fitness and age related illnesses such Alzheimers.
Whether you are retired or not, everyone can enjoy The Kinnet Café. Highly recommended for those individuals who care about the sourcing of ingredients, a nice atmosphere and good food!
