Hong Kong’s newest arts and technology hub, the East Kowloon Cultural Centre (EKCC), will officially begin full operations this November with its highly anticipated Opening Season. From November 2025 to February 2026, the centre will present 17 diverse programmes that blend creativity, performance, and innovation, bringing together artists from Hong Kong, Mainland China, and around the world.

Located at 60 Ngau Tau Kok Road, the East Kowloon Cultural Centre is Hong Kong’s first major venue dedicated to integrating performing arts with advanced technology.

The centre houses five state-of-the-art performance spaces, including The Hall (1,200 seats) and The Theatre (536 seats), each designed to support experimental stage setups and immersive experiences.

17 programmes mark the Opening Season

The EKCC Opening Season will begin with the original Cantonese musical “HighLights – The Memories of Charles Kao”, premiering on November 15. Directed by Erica Li with music by Johnny Yim, the show celebrates the life and achievements of Nobel laureate Professor Charles Kao through 20 original songs and immersive multimedia design.

Other highlighted programmes include:

  • Lucie in the Sky: The Asia premiere of Lucie in the Sky brings together Australia’s Australasian Dance Collective and Swiss drone pioneer Verity Studios. Six dancers perform alongside drones, exploring the emotional interplay between human and machine through beautiful choreography and immersive stage design.
  • Little Murmur: Created by acclaimed British dancer Aakash Odedra, Little Murmur is a moving solo performance inspired by his childhood. With projections by Ars Electronica Futurelab and a poetic soundscape, the piece journeys through self-discovery, imagination, and resilience.
  • Alt-Escape: Canadian duo Video Phase presents Alt-Escape, an electrifying fusion of live music, lasers, and body movement. Featuring futuristic visuals and rhythmic improvisation, this performance pushes the boundaries of digital art and redefines audience engagement through sound and light.
  • Incremental Changes: Making his Hong Kong debut, Austrian artist Gerard Peter joins drummer Aaron Thier for Incremental Changes, a multimedia concert blending rock, jazz, and electronic music. With synchronised digital imagery crafted for EKCC’s opening, the performance celebrates creativity through sound and technology.
