The HK HUB Ethics & Transparency Guidelines

The HK HUB aims to provide accurate, interesting, helpful information about Hong Kong and wider Asia. Here are the editorial standards that guide how we write content.

Factual accuracy

We report information accurately, without omitting any important details, and avoid spreading unsubstantiated rumors or false information. We also ensure that quotes from people and organizations are accurately represented.

Attribution

We give credit to sources of information, including other news organizations or individuals, for photos, videos, and other multimedia used in our reporting when appropriate.

Plagiarism and attribution

We do not tolerate plagiarism in any form. We will always attribute the source of any material we use and will not pass off someone else’s work as our own.

Copyright and fair use

We respect copyright law and will only use material (text, images, or other multimedia) that we have the right to use. We also respect the principles of fair use and will only use copyrighted material when it is necessary for the purpose of news reporting, commentary, or criticism. We will always attribute the source of any material we use.

Errors and corrections policy

If we make an error in our reporting, we will correct it promptly and transparently. If new information becomes available that affects the accuracy of a story, we will update the original story and make note of the changes.

Complaints

We take complaints seriously and investigate them promptly. If you have a complaint, you can reach out to us at feedback@thehkhub.com.

Paid/branded content

We work with advertisers who want to reach our audience, and we clearly mark any paid content or promotions of commercial products as “In collaboration with…” at the top of articles.

Affiliates

We may include referral links to Klook, Trip.com, Booking, Agoda, and other websites in our articles, and we receive a percentage of sales made through these links.

Banner ads

We display Google Ads and The HK HUB-managed banner ads on our website in accordance with industry standards and best practices. We do not endorse or control the content of these ads, and we reserve the right to reject or remove any ads that we deem inappropriate or harmful to our readership. When these ads are served by third-party ad networks, they are clearly marked as such.

Media invitations

We may receive invitations to restaurants and events in exchange for promotions on our social media pages and/or website. We evaluate these invitations on a case-by-case basis to ensure that they align with our editorial values.

Transparency

We value transparency in our reporting and will disclose any potential conflicts of interest or biases that may influence our coverage. We also disclose any financial or other relationships we have with sources or organizations we report on.

Diversity and inclusivity

We strive to reflect the diversity of Hong Kong society in our reporting and content. We are committed to representing a variety of voices, perspectives, and experiences in our coverage.

Privacy

We respect the privacy of individuals and will not publish personal information without their consent, unless the information is in the public interest.

Commenting policy

We welcome constructive feedback and open discussion in our comments section. However, we reserve the right to remove comments that are abusive, discriminatory, or off-topic.
