Hong Kong International Airport will begin operating new passenger departure facilities at Terminal 2 on 27 May 2026. The opening is part of a phased launch designed to match passenger demand. The timing will help handle higher summer peak traffic, while the upgraded area adds new check-in options and smoother connections between airport transport links and terminal spaces.

The start date was announced during Chinese New Year celebrations at the airport by Airport Authority Hong Kong Chairman Fred Lam and Secretary for Transport and Logistics Mable Chan.

Terminal 2 will be seamlessly connected to the Airport Express platform and Terminal 1. It will also introduce a new generation of smart check-in facilities. HKIA describes the expanded Terminal 2 as a trendy and vibrant space aimed at leisure travellers.

Around 15 airlines are expected to operate from Terminal 2, mainly serving short-haul and regional routes. Airlines will move into Terminal 2 in phases, rather than switching over all at once. Terminal 2 has already seen one earlier phase launch as the Terminal 2 Coach Hall began operations on 23 September 2025, providing parking bays and ticketing for cross-boundary transport to more than 110 destinations in the Greater Bay Area.
