Hong Kong International Airport has opened its Cherry Blossom Garden to the public from 29 January 2026, offering a seasonal viewing spot on Airport Island. The garden now has 160 cherry blossom trees after an expansion that added new planting along the Tung Chung Bay waterfront.
Airport Authority Hong Kong said the trees are the “Haoyunlai” variety from Guangzhou, chosen for strong heat resistance and suitability for Hong Kong’s climate.
Are the cherry blossoms at HKIA in bloom yet?
Yes, but the display is still building. Steven Yiu Siu-chung, Executive Director of Airport Operations, said about 20% to 30% of the blossoms are currently in bloom. He added the trees are expected to gradually come into full bloom over the next two weeks, between February 2 and February 15, with the best viewing period expected next week.
Blossoms are short-lived. Hong Kong Airport’s landscaping team says the blossoming period typically lasts 7 to 14 days, although it can vary from year to year depending on weather conditions.
