Government officials on Monday announced the details of three “Happy Hong Kong” gourmet food marketplaces, with the first one happening this weekend. The markets will be free-of-charge to the entire public as part of a series of events happening throughout the year to promote spending and stoke Hong Kong’s economy.
The first marketplace runs this weekend (April 29 & 30, 2023 at Hall 3G, Hong Kong Convention & Exhibition Centre, Wan Chai) and celebrates global cuisines, Chinese cuisines, and Hong Kong flavours. Organised by the Home Affairs Department, the markets will feature performances, cooking demonstrations, and play areas and games for children.
Tickets for the first gourmet market can be collected on a first-come-first-served basis starting 8am on Wednesday, April 26 at 20 Home Affairs Enquiry Centres across the city. Each person can take up to two tickets.
The second market will feature cuisines from different parts of China (May 6 & 7, 2023 at the Sha Tin Town Hall Plaza and Sha Tin Park), while the final market will feature Asian cuisines and wine (June 3 & 4, 2023 at VESSEL, 86, 90, and 126 Hoi Bun Rd, Kwun Tong Promenade). Tickets will not be necessary to enter the remaining markets.
Cinema Day, where 61 participating theatre companies across the city will be offering all their movie tickets at a flat rate of HK$30, will also be occurring on April 29.
The “Happy Hong Kong” campaign, which Financial Secretary Paul Chan first unveiled during the 2023-2024 budget address in February, is scheduled to occur over 10 months. There are set to be events like agriculture and fishery festivals in Tsing Yi and Yuen Long, the Harbour Chill “sea-land carnival” featuring international music artists, and events organised with Ocean Park, Hong Kong Disneyland, West Kowloon Cultural District Authority, Hong Kong Jockey Club, and more.
