CCW Global Hong Kong

Hong Kong is heading into another dangerously hot day. The Observatory has warned that temperatures could reach 37°C or above in some areas today, as the outer subsiding air of Tropical Cyclone Dolphin continues to affect the city.

The warning follows the highest temperature recorded in Hong Kong, 36.8°C on August 9, since records began in 1884.

The extreme heat came as Tropical Cyclone Dolphin moved across eastern China, with its outer subsiding air bringing very hot and dry conditions to southern China.

The Observatory also says extremely hot weather will continue today and tomorrow, with temperatures in some areas reaching 37°C or above.

The Observatory urged the public to pay attention to their health, drink more water, avoid vigorous outdoor activity and seek help quickly if symptoms such as dizziness, headache, nausea or shortness of breath develop. The Labour Department has also issued an Amber Heat Stress at Work Warning, reminding workers and employers to take heat-prevention measures.

High temperatures are also expected on Wednesday and Thursday, with a few showers possible as a southwesterly airstream affects the coast of Guangdong. Later in the week, upper-air disturbances will bring more unsettled weather to southern China, with showers expected to increase and the extreme heat easing slightly.
