Two Hong Kong hotels have made it to the World’s 50 Best Hotels list for 2024, which was recently announced at a ceremony in London. Rosewood Hong Kong (No. 3) and The Upper House (No. 5) have been included in the top 10, surpassing regional competitors like Raffles Singapore (No. 6) and Aman Tokyo (No. 7). The top spot went to Capella Bangkok.

Rosewood Hong Kong found a place on the list thanks to its “signature luxe hospitality style”, “elegant interior of the hotel” by Taiwanese-born designer Tony Chi, the restrained aesthetic of its rooms, and the eclectic offerings of its 11 restaurants. The Upper House’s pioneering work by designer André Fu, artwork dotted across the property, peaceful ambience, and its restaurant Salisterra secured the hotel’s position on the list. However, both hotels have each fallen in the rankings since last year, when Rosewood was No. 2 and The Upper House was No. 4.

The list is created by The World’s 50 Best Hotels Academy, a group of 600 anonymous leaders in the hotel industry, each selected for their expert opinions and background in the hotel scene. The World’s 50 Best Hotels Academy comprises 9 voting regions, each headed up by an Academy Chair. Voters include hoteliers, travel journalists, seasoned luxury travellers, hospitality professionals, and other experienced globetrotters.

Earlier this month, The Peninsula was deemed Asia’s Leading Heritage Hotel for the second year in a row at the 2024 World Travel Awards, beating competition from establishments like Tai O Heritage Hotel, Raffles Singapore, and Mandarin Oriental in Bangkok.
