Five-time Grammy winner and acclaimed Indian tabla player Zakir Hussain will perform in Hong Kong on June 6, along with sarangi artist Sabir Khan and vocalist Ghulam Siraj Niazi. The concert is part of ‘Sammaan’, an annual event in the city that features esteemed and legendary Indian musical artists.

The event will take place at the Concert Hall of Hong Kong City Hall in Central, and will begin at 7pm with a vocal recital by Ghulam Siraj Niazi. Hussain will then take the stage along with sarangi artist Sabir Khan. ‘Sammaan’ is being organised by the Padmabhushan Ustad Mushtaq Husain Khan Association (PUMHKA), which aims to promote and nurture performing arts, specifically Indian classical music and Indian classical dance in Hong Kong. This year’s edition of the event is particularly special, as it also celebrates PUMHKA’s 10th anniversary.

Hussain is fresh off his wins at the 66th Annual Grammy Awards in February this year, where he was awarded three Grammys: Best Global Music Performance for his work on the track Pashto, Best Contemporary Instrumental Album for As We Speak, and Best Global Music Album for This Moment with world fusion band Shakti.
