FIFA has confirmed that Hong Kong will co-host the inaugural FIFA ASEAN Cup 2026, with Division 2 of the new tournament taking place in the city from September 24 to October 3.
The competition is split between two hosts. Indonesia will stage Division 1, while Hong Kong will host Division 2, bringing international football to two venues in Kowloon: Kai Tak Stadium and Mong Kok Stadium.
The Hong Kong matches form one half of a wider tournament featuring 14 national teams. Division 1 in Indonesia includes Indonesia, Bangladesh, Malaysia and Singapore in Group A, while Vietnam, Pakistan, Thailand and the Philippines make up Group B.
The FIFA ASEAN Cup begins on September 24, with matches in both host locations. Hong Kong’s first involvement as a team comes three days later against Laos.
Hong Kong will compete in Group A alongside Laos and Brunei. The home side will play its first match against Laos at Kai Tak Stadium on September 27 at 3pm, before returning to the same venue to face Brunei on September 30 at 8pm.
Group B will feature Cambodia, Myanmar and Timor-Leste. Across both groups, six group-stage matches will be played in Hong Kong, followed by the Division 2 final.
A total of seven matches will therefore take place in the city. The group winners will advance to the final on October 3 at Kai Tak Stadium, where the Division 2 champion will be decided.
