Christmas in Central is about to get a lot brighter as Hong Kong WinterFest returns this November, with a 20-metre tree as its centrepiece. Roughly the height of a six-storey building and wrapped in sparkling decorations, it is the kind of sight that makes people slow down on their way home from work.

Last year, Statue Square was so busy in the evenings that entry was sometimes controlled. This time, the tree returns with the little Christmas Town built around it, making it an easy evening plan for anyone who wants a festive walk without leaving the city centre.
Here is what to expect when it opens:
- When: November to December 2026, opening date to be announced
- Where: Statue Square Gardens, a few minutes on foot from Central MTR station
- Light show: a 360-degree immersive show across the district
- Chater Road: seasonal displays by Hongkong Land
- Extras: holiday shopping and dining offers around the city
- Finale: a New Year countdown
In 2025, the Christmas Town opened on 14 November and stayed until 4 January, while the projections began on 28 November and ran every 30 minutes from 7:30pm to 10:30pm. A mid-November start is likely again this year.
Evenings are the best time to visit, once the tree and the surrounding buildings are lit. Weekends tend to be crowded, so arriving early or picking a weekday makes it easier to get a clean photo.
