Ma Wan 1868 will host the “Light Up Ma Wan” Festival on 25 and 26 October, bringing a warm autumn glow to the island. Participants can hand-paint their lantern and choose to either take it home as a keepsake, leave it at Ma Wan 1868 for staff to release onto the sea during the event.

The lantern release will take place between 5.30pm and 8pm, when the sea will be illuminated by hundreds of floating lights. Staff will be on site and will install fencing control devices around the designated area of activity. All supplies will be recycled according to Ma Wan 1868 announcements on Facebook.

Earlier in the day, visitors can enjoy the Ma Wan 1868 Colour Party, a free-admission outdoor celebration featuring artisan markets, live music, street performances, and family-friendly workshops such as pottery, soap-making, and chalk art. The vibrant setup encourages creativity and community spirit against the island’s coastal backdrop.

Other highlights include the Another World Creative Journey exhibition, which displays poster art by more than 20 Hong Kong illustrators, and a special showroom by British artist Rob Pepper featuring his “City and Pets” collection.
