MTR Corporation has announced a major expansion of the High Speed Rail (Hong Kong Section), marking a new milestone in cross-boundary connectivity. From 26 January 2026, High Speed Rail services from Hong Kong West Kowloon Station will add 16 new direct-access destinations, bringing the total number of destinations to 110 across China.

The expansion strengthens links with key cities in eastern and southern China, including Nanjing, Wuxi, and Hefei, which are popular for business, technology, culture, and tourism. These cities are also covered under Hong Kong’s Individual Visit Scheme, making travel easier for leisure and family trips.
At the same time, the Shanghai Hongqiao sleeper train service will be upgraded from operating four days a week to daily departures, offering passengers a convenient overnight travel option. With the addition of new daytime services, there will be three daily train pairs connecting Hong Kong and Shanghai. Train frequencies on busy routes, including Guangzhounan and Shantou, will also increase.
Passengers can begin pre-purchasing tickets from 12 January 2026, ahead of the service changes taking effect.
