Hong Kong International Airport (HKIA) has landed among the world’s cleanest aviation hubs. In the World Airport Awards 2026, HKIA ranked 5th in the Major Airport Category; the customer-voted ranking was dominated by Asia, which took eight of the top 10 places globally across the major-airport cleanliness list this year.
Tokyo Haneda AIrport was named the world’s cleanest major airport for 2026, while Seoul Incheon ranked 2nd, followed by Singapore Changi in 3rd and Tokyo Narita in 4th.
Hong Kong ranked 5th, placing ahead of Taiwan Taoyuan, Kansai, Zurich, Shanghai Hongqiao and Rome Fiumicino.
In total, Asian airports took eight of the 10 places, with Zurich and Rome Fiumicino the only European airports on the major-airport list.
Apart from the Major Airport Category, New Chitose Airport in Hokkaido was named the World’s Cleanest Airport 2026 for airports handling up to 30 million passengers.
The World Airport Awards have operated since 1999 and are among the best-known benchmarks for airport service and facilities. The rankings are independent, impartial and based on the World Airport Survey, completed by travellers from more than 100 nationalities between August 2025 and February 2026.
The survey assesses the full passenger journey, including check-in, arrivals, transfers, shopping, security, immigration and departure at the gate.
