Dreaming of a beach vacation in Malaysia or a foodie-fuelled adventure in Thailand? You can save money on flight tickets by getting a base fare-free ticket to these destinations, courtesy AirAsia’s Free Seats promotion. The budget carrier is offering up to 15 million tickets without basic-rates charges on routes across its extensive network until February 23, 2025, which includes two Hong Kong-origin flights to tourist hotpots in Southeast Asia. Remember that the tickets aren’t completely free — passengers will still have to pay taxes, fees, and surcharges that apply to the airports they depart from and arrive at.

How to Get the Free Seats

To get your hands on the tickets, all you need to do is visit the AirAsia website or download the carrier’s MOVE app and make bookings as usual. The Free Seats promo applies to travel dates between July 1, 2025 and June 15, 2026, and extends to peak seasons like the summer and year-end holidays, but may only be available for flights during certain times of day. Hong Kong travellers can head to Kota Kinabalu and Bangkok (only Don Mueung International Airport) using this deal, which only covers 7kgs of carry-on baggage. They will need to pay extra for optional services like check-in baggage, seat selection, on-board meals, and insurance.

If you can’t get tickets from Hong Kong to Bangkok, try booking from Shenzhen to the Thai capital as the limited-time fare applies to the Shenzhen-Bangkok (Don Mueung) route. Passengers can also get 20% off on opt-in features like check-in luggage, in-flight meals, and seat selection if they choose a Value Pack. But keep an eye out for mandatory airport construction fees, departure and arrival taxes, fuel surcharges, and other charges that aren’t included in the offer.

Other Discounted Fares from Hong Kong to Southeast Asia

The airline is also running a promotion on one-way flights from Hong Kong to Kuala Lumpur, Penang, Jakarta, Bali (Denpasar), and Manila, which start at HK$410 and include taxes and other applicable fees. If you decide to fly AirAsia from Kuala Lumpur, Manila or Bali to the Maldives, Perth, Tawau, Kuching, and Boracay, you can also avail fares that start at HK$817, which also covers relevant taxes and fees.
