Looking to cool down this summer? Hongkongers can now explore a new waterside spot in East Kowloon. The Jockey Club Kai Tak Water Sports Centre officially opened in July, bringing a mix of water sports and harbourfront facilities to the former airport runway area, close to the Kai Tak Cruise Terminal.
7 Water Sports Activities
The centre offers a wide range of water sports, including dragon boating, kayaking, stand-up paddleboarding, flat-water rowing, sailing, bamboo rafting and rope-free wake surfing.
Programmes are designed for different experience levels, from beginner-friendly sessions in calmer waters around Kai Tak River and Tsui Ping River to more challenging routes across Victoria Harbour.
Participants can join leisure activities, training sessions, venue hire or more advanced courses, with qualified instructors guiding water safety and techniques. The centre also provides professional equipment rental.
Revitalised Building with 180° Sea-View Rooftop
Beyond the water, the centre also offers other land activities such as balance bike sessions, curling-style games, archery tag and indigo dyeing workshops.
The site has been transformed from the former Kai Tak Fire Station, preserving the two-storey red-and-white building from the 1970s and giving it a new role as part of the waterfront activity hub.
Another highlight is the 180° sea-view rooftop, which offers open views across East Kowloon and adds a scenic setting for gatherings, activities and photo stops.
