Hong Kong is set to get its newest free harbourfront space in Wan Chai next month, along with the SAR debut of an international light installation. The Wan Chai Harbourfront Event Space will open in mid-March and will feature Italian artist Angelo Bonello’s renowned ‘Run Beyond’ light art show for a month.
Since 2015, the ‘Run Beyond’ series has appeared at major landmarks in cities across the world, from Amsterdam, Toronto, and Washington D.C., to Singapore, Liverpool, and London. The 65-metre-long installation takes the form of recurring imagery of running and leaping large light silhouettes. This will be the centrepiece of the new 13,000 square metre space in Wan Chai, and will be visible from the Kowloon side of Victoria Harbour.
The Wan Chai Harbourfront Event Space, which is next to the Wan Chai Pier, will open in mid-March with a gala ceremony that Angelo Bonello will attend and interact with visitors at the event, which will have a DJ party, as well as food and beverage stalls. Hong Kong’s ‘illuminate! Run Beyond’ will run until mid-April.
There will also be other art exhibitions along Victoria Harbour over the next couple of months, most notably Art@Harbour 2024, which will have hundreds of luminous light installations at both the Central and Tsim Sha Tsui sides of the harbour.
