Have you ever felt that tingly sensation on the back of your neck and scalp and wondered why it’s happening? ASMR — Autonomous Sensory Meridian Response — may be the answer. And soon, you’ll be able to get an immersive experience of the phenomenon in Hong Kong when ‘Weird Sensations Feel Good: The World of ASMR’ opens its doors in Hong Kong on March 14. The showcase will come to the city after making its debut in Stockholm as a pioneering exhibition and later showcasing at the Design Museum in London for almost one year. It will be held at AIRSIDE’s Gate33 Gallery, and will run for four months through July 13, during which time visitors will enjoy interacting with audio, visual, and tactile pieces of work and even create their own sounds.

Immersive Soundscapes and ASMR Experiences

The Hong Kong edition of the long-time running exhibition will feature newly commissioned artwork from international and Hong Kong-based artists showcasing the city’s unique auditory personality and soundscapes. Visitors will get the opportunity to interact with a series of visual, auditory, and tactile displays designed to bring out physical sensations of calm and euphoria to the users. One of the highlights of the exhibition is the 100-square metre ASMR Arena, a centrepiece built from over a kilometre of woven pillow where visitors can lay down while enjoying some of the diverse installations.

Tickets to the Exhibition

After debuting in Stockholm in 2020 at the Swedish Centre for Architecture and Design, aka ArkDes, the show exhibited at the Design Museum in London for almost a year, winning the 2022 Dezeen Exhibition Design of the Year Award.
