Stephen Curry returned to Hong Kong on September 14 for the first time in a decade, drawing students and basketball fans to Tuen Mun for a morning of basketball, questions and plenty of three-point shooting.
The four-time NBA champion visited Shun Tak Fraternal Association Leung Kau Kui College as part of his 2026 China Tour with Li-Ning, following stops in Beijing, Dongguan and Shenzhen.
Curry’s morning began on the school basketball court, where students had prepared signs and decorations to welcome the Golden State Warriors star.
He soon also got involved in the action, coaching both sides during a 5-on-5 exhibition game between students from the school.
Unsurprisingly, the NBA’s all-time leader in three-pointers also spent some time shooting. Curry joined members of the boys’ and girls’ basketball teams for shooting challenges and gave the crowd a closer look at the technique that has helped redefine long-range shooting in the NBA.
The visit was not all about basketball. Curry also sat down with students and answered questions about his career, including how he handles self-doubt and criticism. He spoke about trusting his work ethic, continuing to dream big and trying to improve every day.
There was also a distinctly Hong Kong moment when Curry tried out some Cantonese. He learned how to say “thank you” and was introduced to his local nickname, 咖喱仔, which translates roughly as “Curry Boy”.
During the event, Curry also helped launch the Curry Cup, a new inter-school basketball competition that will initially involve schools in New Territories West.
His Hong Kong schedule continued later in the day in Tsim Sha Tsui, where he visited Li-Ning’s flagship store on Canton Road. There, Curry met fans, signed autographs and spent time with winners of a local competition, with only 20 fans selected to take part in the special meet-and-greet.
The visit marked Curry’s first appearance in Hong Kong in 10 years and gave local students and fans a rare opportunity to see the only unanimous MVP in NBA history up close.
