The Hong Kong International Airport will give runners the chance to race along its new centre runway on November 17, 2024, during the Three-Runway System 10km International Race. The race will be open to 12,000 runners who can participate in the 10km, 5km, 3km, and 10km wheelchair categories. Public registrations are open from 2 pm, September 23-7 pm, September 27.
The event is open to participants aged 16 years and older. While priority registration was open from September 17-18, runners who took part in the Standard Chartered ‘98 New Airport Marathon when the current airport opened in Chek Lap Kok in 1998 are eligible for priority entry for the 10km race. This year’s 5km race will comprise 1 circuit around the runway, while 10km competition participants will have to run 2 circuits. The 3km race will be a shorter circuit on the runway.
Entry fees will range between HK$350-HK$500 for Hong Kong residents and US$60-US$85 for non-local runners. The races will take anytime between 40 minutes to 2 hours, depending on whether runners sign up for the Women’s Elite, 10km Challenge, 10km non-Challenge, 5km Challenge, 3km, or 10km Wheelchair categories. The first race will begin at 8:10am, and the last one will start at 10:20am.
The total prize money awarded will be US$42,000 (about HK$327,000), and the winners in both men’s and women’s races will get US$7,500 (about HK$58,400). Hong Kong Permanent Residents who participate in the Women’s Elite Race and finish within 37 minutes will each be awarded with US$200 (about HK$1,550). There will also be prize money for the top 3 Hong Kong Permanent Residents in each age category.
