The forthcoming Standard Chartered Hong Kong Marathon will take place on February 9, 2025, and is open to 74,000 runners across three categories. While the race courses will remain the same, there will be 20 age groups — up from the previous 8 — with 10 each for the men’s and women’s categories. Priority registrations open on August 12, while the public ballot is available from 10 am on August 21 until August 30.
Participants can sign up for one of three races: the marathon (18,000 quota), the half-marathon (24,500 quota), and the 10km run (30,900 quota). The 10km Wheelchair Race and the Wheelchair Trial are open to 20 and 40 participants respectively. The race courses for the major categories remain unchanged, with the marathon and half-marathon routes starting at Nathan Road in Tsim Sha Tsui and finishing at Victoria Park. The 10km run will begin at the Island Eastern Corridor and also end at Victoria Park.
Marathon winners in both the men and women’s divisions will get US$65,000 (HK$506,240), and the prize money for Hong Kong permanent residents who finish in the top three positions of each race category ranges from HK$6,000-HK$500. In addition, permanent residents who run the marathon and complete it in under 3 hours (men) or 3.5 hours (women) will receive HK$1,000.
The 2024 edition of the Hong Kong Marathon, which took place on January 22, 2024, also saw 74,000 runners take part in the event. Kenya’s Seroi Anderson Saitoti and Ethiopia’s Medina Armino were the first to cross the finish line in the men and women’s categories, respectively, and film star Chow Yun-fat completed the half-marathon in a little over 2 hours and 26 minutes.
