Lee Tung Avenue has transformed its 200-metre pedestrian street in Wan Chai for Mid-Autumn Festival, filling the route with more than 800 red and palace lanterns.
The seasonal installation continues until 19 October and combines familiar festive decoration with new palace lantern designs inspired by Chinese paper-cutting.
The programme centres on 25 September, when an 18-metre LED dragon will return for one evening parade, while several family-friendly activities will take place across the surrounding weekends in the same location.
The LED Fire Dragon Fiesta will start at Central Piazza at 8:30pm and run for about 45 minutes. The dragon will travel towards the Queen’s Road East and Johnston Road entrances before returning to Central Piazza.
LED lighting replaces burning incense, while smoke effects, an LED lion and a drum troupe will join the procession. Fixed-point performances are planned at Central Piazza and both entrances.
The palace lanterns are appearing in the display for the first time. Their paper-cut-inspired designs show Mid-Autumn stories including Hou Yi, Chang’e, the Jade Rabbit and Wu Gang, alongside scenes of families making lanterns, preparing mooncakes and gathering for reunion meals.
Other activities are spread across September. The WeekCommune market will run on 12–13 and 19–20 September with Mid-Autumn-themed items.
A Mini Palace Lantern Workshop will be held near Central Piazza from 3pm to 6pm on 19 and 20 September, with participation subject to the event’s redemption conditions. On 26 September, a Mid-Autumn concert will run from 2pm to 6pm, featuring FAME Singing Academy, Pooi To Middle School String Ensemble, YouthSing Music and Euphonos Ensemble.
Moon Fest Lumiere is open from 10am to 11pm, with the lanterns illuminated from 5pm. On 25 September, the lights will remain on until midnight. Opening dates and hours may change depending on weather conditions.
