Parents looking for something free to do have an option in November. Standard Chartered Arts in the Park returns to Victoria Park on 14 and 15 November, with a fairytale theme inspired by stories.
Think Little Red Riding Hood, Hansel and Gretel, Aladdin and Jack and the Beanstalk, brought into the festival through puppetry and art made with local students.
The carnival runs during the day, while two parades give families reasons to visit after dark or on Sunday afternoon.
Two Giant Puppet Parades Take to the Streets

Saturday’s Night Parade sets off from Lee Garden One at 8.30pm. Five illuminated puppets, 18 glowing costumes and over 150 performers will follow Yun Ping, Pak Sha, Lee Garden and Kai Chiu roads to Hysan Place, then return. A juggling team, marching band and rope-skipping troupe take part.
The Grand Finale on Sunday brings ten four-metre-tall puppets, leaving Victoria Park at 2.30pm for Great George Street, past Sogo to East Point Road and back. They will be joined by 500 young participants.
Free Art Activities, Storytelling and Live Performances
Families at the daytime carnival can make art at 17 creative booths, listen to stories in English and Cantonese or join African drumming workshops.
Across the weekend, organisers are staging 60 live performances, while more than 900 artworks will be displayed.
Alongside the parades, giant puppets will make surprise appearances around Victoria Park throughout both days. The festival is organised by Hong Kong Youth Arts Foundation, whose school arts programmes bring young people into the making of costumes and puppets.
