Hong Kong will host the 2023 Asia’s 50 Best Bars awards, which will feature a live ceremony on July 18. The event, which will be held in collaboration with the Hong Kong Tourism Board, is expected to be the first large-scale gathering of Asia’s bar community since the outbreak of the Covid-19 pandemic in early 2020.

The annual list of Asia’s 50 Best Bars is created based on the votes of Asia’s 50 Best Bars Academy — an anonymous group of 250 industry leaders that includes bartenders, bar owners, drinks writers, and cocktail aficionados. Each Academy member can nominate a total of seven bars, with no obligation to vote for bars outside of their home country. The criteria that determines a “best bar experience” is left to the voters’ discretion.

The event in Hong Kong will include the Bartenders’ Feast the night before the unveiling of Asia’s 50 Best Bars 2023.

In 2022, eight Hong Kong bars made it to the Top 50, and Coa took the No. 1 spot in Asia. In addition, five more bars in the city were included in the 51-100 list.

Last month, Asia’s 50 Best Restaurants for 2023 were announced, and five Hong Kong establishments made it to the list, while eight were included in the 51-100 rankings. Singapore, the host country, had 15 restaurants in the Top 100, the most on the list.
