Kowloon City-based bakery Hoover Cake Shop, which was set to close on October 1 because the current owners are retiring, will reopen under new ownership next year.

In a social media post on Thursday, the owners of the bakery thanked The Academics Group — which owns The Coffee Academics cafe chain — for taking over Hoover Cake Shop when it opens its doors again in 2023. While there is no date set for the reopening, the post did ensure that the characteristic traditional practices of the bakery will continue under the new ownership.

The 48-year-old red-bricked bakery, which counts actor Chow Yun-fat among its patrons, is famous for its egg tarts, as well as almond cookies and red bean puffs. At present, the store is run by long-time staff members shop assistant Kau and pastry chef Fu. When the bakery is once again open for business, Fu will continue to make its trademark cakes.
