Thailand’s popular S20 Songkran Music Festival is coming to Hong Kong for the first time this year, and will be held at Central Harbourfront on August 5 and 6. The event — which has also been held in Japan, Taiwan, and South Korea — typically features a 360-degrees water-splashing experience and DJ performances.
The festival was first held in Bangkok in 2015. This year’s edition is happening in the Thai capital from April 13-15, and has DJs Tiësto, Sebastian Ingrosso, and Nicky Romero headlining the event. It coincides with the Thai New Year festivities in April.
Early-bird tickets for the Hong Kong event are already sold out, but pre-sale tickets — priced at HK$980 for one day, and HK$1,580 for two days — will be available here.
There are several Songkran festivities in Hong Kong this month, such as the recently concluded Happy Songkran Festival in Kowloon City and SongKran HK 2023 at Lai Chi Kok. The city’s first Thai street food festival will take place in Lan Kwai Fong on April 22.
The Songkran Festival is an important event in Thailand and is celebrated across the country for three days in mid-April. The highlight of the festival is water-splashing, which is symbolic of washing away bad luck and welcoming a new year of good fortune.
