Hong Kong player Coleman Wong Chak-lam has reached the quarterfinals of the Bank of China Hong Kong Tennis Open 2026, marking the first ATP Tour last-eight appearance of his career. Wong advanced after a three-set comeback win over Gabriel Diallo, defeating his friend and doubles partner 1–6, 7–5, 7–5.

Wong recovered from a difficult opening set in which he struggled against Diallo’s aggressive groundstrokes. After trailing early, the 21-year-old regrouped in the second set, overturning a late challenge from the world No. 40 to level the match. The deciding set remained closely contested until Wong secured the crucial break in the final game to close out the victory in front of the home crowd.

The result follows Wong’s first-round win over Mariano Navone and confirms his progress on the ATP Tour after reaching the third round of the US Open last year. He will now face top seed Lorenzo Musetti in the quarterfinals on Friday at Victoria Park.

Reflecting on the win, Wong said: “This win means a lot to me, to win at home. The match was so close, it was anybody’s game, just a few points here and there. It is always tough to play Gabriel… Tonight’s win tells us that I belong here. This is my first ATP Tour quarterfinal. I will keep playing, and keep dreaming.”

Wong will look to extend his run against world No. 7 Lorenzo Musetti when they meet in the quarterfinals on Friday, 9 January, as the Hong Kong Open moves into the last-eight stage.
