Parents making summer plans in Hong Kong can add the International Arts Carnival (IAC) to their July and August calendars. This year, the event will feature more than 100 performances and activities, including theatre, dance, music, acrobatics, workshops and more.

Designed especially for kids and families, the carnival brings together overseas and local arts groups with shows for all ages, from toddlers and schools to adults.

Opening Highlights: Starchitects from The UK and PLAY from Spain

This year’s line-up brings award-winning overseas productions to Hong Kong, including the opening programme Starchitects, an acrobatic theatre show from the UK, as well as PLAY, a playful contemporary dance production from Spain.

Running from July 10 to 12, Starchitects opens the carnival with an acrobatic theatre adventure by UK company Motionhouse.

Named Best Family Arts Activity at the UK’s Fantastic for Families Awards, the show follows five children who turn cardboard boxes into planes, launchpads and rockets before blasting off to the Moon. It features aerial acrobatics, circus choreography, colourful characters and 3D digital projections.

PLAY By Aracaladanza Compañía, Spain

Presented by Spain’s Aracaladanza Compañía, PLAY celebrates the joy of games, toys and imagination through dance. Five performers in quirky costumes reinvent familiar childhood moments, from Swan Lake with floaties to larger-than-human-sized pillow fights and giant cat’s cradles.

Taking place from August 8 to 9, the production won Best Costume Design, Best Lighting Design and Best Original Score at the 2020 MAX Awards.

More Family Activities Beyond The Stage

Apart from the shows, IAC will also feature stage tours, film screenings, interactive workshops and exhibitions for families, giving children more ways to explore the arts beyond a traditional theatre setting.

For the first time, audiences can enjoy a family package discount when buying full-price and student tickets together.

Tickets are available now through URBTIX. Check the official website for family package, concessionary tickets and more offers.
