Hong Kong is becoming the backdrop for Donnie Yen’s upcoming action film ‘CAINE’, a spin-off from the hugely successful John Wick franchise.

The production has been seen at several locations across the city, including the Big Buddha, Tai O and Tsing Shan Monastery, as well as busy streets in Mong Kok and Yau Ma Tei.

The reported locations highlight both Hong Kong’s traditional landmarks and its distinctive urban scenery, although the order in which the scenes are being filmed has not been confirmed.

Images taken around Changsha Street and Portland Street show a large-scale night shoot surrounded by glowing signs and brightly lit shopfronts.

The wet road reflects the red and blue lighting, giving the area the atmospheric look associated with the John Wick films.
The set also features police-style vehicles, crowds of black-clad performers, production equipment and numerous crew members. Another image shows a traditional lion-dance procession moving through the street, while a suited performer stands near cameras and lighting equipment. Signs placed nearby confirm that filming is taking place between 6pm and 3am.

Yen is both directing the project and returning as Caine, the blind assassin introduced in John Wick: Chapter 4. The character was forced to confront John Wick, played by Keanu Reeves, while navigating the rules of the franchise’s criminal underworld.

Actor Mason Thames has also reportedly been spotted during the Hong Kong production. Road users should expect temporary restrictions, with sections around Temple Street affected until July 21 as filming continues.
