Hong Kong will hold the Hong Kong Cup — Short Track Speed Skating, the first short track speed skating event in the city that will follow International Skating Union (ISU) rules. The event will take place on December 26 at the DB Ice Rink and will have participation from more than 50 skaters.

The athlete to watch out for is short track speed skater Sidney Chu, who was Hong Kong’s flag bearer at the 2022 Winter Olympics in Beijing and won the 1,000m silver medal and 500m bronze at the 2019 Asian Championships.

Some of the other athletes taking part in the competition — which comprises 11 groups — include Sports Institute athletes Lam Ching-yan, Kwok Tsz-ho, and Kwok Tsz-fung, as well as students from Chu’s Hong Kong Speed Skating Academy.

Prominent coaches in the sport will also attend the event. Wan Chuang, the coach of the Hong Kong short track speed skating team and visiting head coach of the Hong Kong Speed Skating Academy, and Kim Sun Tae, former Korean national team head coach at the 2018 Winter Olympics, will be present at the competition.
