Equestrian theatre is coming to Hong Kong this September, with Cavalluna bringing a large-scale live horse show to Kai Tak Arena from 8 to 13 September. The run includes eight performances across five days, with a format designed for a broad audience, including families.
The production is staged as horse show + theatre, using lighting, music, dancers and large sets to link scenes. A fantasy storyline runs through the show and connects the riding sequences.
The plot follows a young sorceress, Meerin, who is cast out and forced to flee. She is later pursued by enemies trying to take her lost magic, which drives the show’s shifts between darker chase-style moments and lighter ensemble sections.
On the arena floor, the focus is on horsemanship, timing and choreography. Audiences can expect 54 horses on stage, including Andalusians, Friesians, Lusitanos and mini ponies. The programme features choreographed group riding with riders moving in formations, plus trick riding that relies on speed, balance and control.
There are also liberty scenes, where horses perform without reins and respond to cues through movement and positioning. One of the best-known stunts is the Hungarian Post, where a rider stands across two moving horses while guiding them.
Showtimes are 8 Sep (7pm), 10 Sep (7pm), 11 Sep (3pm, 8pm), 12 Sep (2pm, 7pm), and 13 Sep (1pm, 6pm), with tickets sold online, starting from HK$395, depending on seating and ticket category.
