Hong Kong’s first Star Wars Night Run brought fans to Hung Hom on May 1, just days before the worldwide May 4 celebration of the iconic saga.
The event took place at The Whampoa and Hung Hom Promenade, with runners joining either a 1KM cosplay category or a 2KM individual run. The race ran from 6pm to 9pm, while a themed market and carnival took place earlier in the day at Shung King Street and Fashion World.

The event had a strong family-friendly feel, with parents bringing children dressed in Star Wars-inspired outfits. Photos shared on Threads showed crowds holding glowing lightsabers, runners in capes, helmets and full costumes, and fans posing around the waterfront race area. Large photo spots and inflatable installations also appeared around the venue, giving the event more of a community festival feel than a standard night run.

The Whampoa said more than a thousand runners were expected to gather at the starting line, while the event also included a dedicated cosplay category for fans. Klook listed the event as open to participants aged four and above, making it accessible to families as well as casual runners and long-time fans.

Cosplay fans will have another chance to dress up later this month, as the first Hong Kong Comic Con takes over Hall 3 at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre from May 29 to 31. The event will bring together pop culture, comics, collectibles, gaming and entertainment under one roof.
