Hong Kong saw localised severe weather on Wednesday, April 29, as amber rain brought heavy showers to the city. Videos shared on Threads showed flooding in specific areas, including a taxi stuck in floodwater on a road and rainwater entering a McDonald’s outlet, as unsettled conditions affected Hong Kong during the afternoon.
The footage circulated as the Observatory warned that areas of thundery showers linked to a cold front were affecting the vicinity of the Pearl River Estuary. At 4:45pm, it said showers were expected to become heavier in some areas over the next couple of hours and urged the public to stay alert.
At 5:30pm, the Observatory also warned that intense gusts may continue to affect Lantau, Hong Kong Island and Kowloon, advising anyone outdoors to seek safe shelter as soon as possible.
The latest forecast shows mixed and unsettled weather in the coming days, with cloudy conditions on May 1, sunny intervals on several days, and showers or thunderstorms expected again from May 3 onwards.
