Two Hong Kong restaurants have made it to the 2023 list of World’s 51-100 Best Restaurants, which was unveiled on Thursday. The two restaurants – Wing and Neighborhood – were also on the 2022 edition of the list. The World’s 50 Best Restaurants for this year will be announced on June 20.

Wing, which placed at No. 100 in 2022, climbed 10 spots to No. 90 this year. The restaurant focuses on Vicky Cheng’s interpretation of Chinese menu in the form of a seasonal tasting menu.

Neighbourhood slipped 16 places to the No. 92 spot on this year’s list. The David Lai-run establishment is popular on the Hong Kong culinary landscape for its French-forward offerings and is often booked weeks in advance.

Both restaurants featured in the 2023 edition of Asia’s 50 Best Restaurants, which were announced earlier this year, and Hong Kong was represented by five restaurants: The Chairman (No. 13), Neighborhood (No. 29), Wing (37), Mono (41), and Caprice (49).

Other Asian cities that also made the list include Bangkok and Singapore, with four restaurants each, followed by Tokyo with two restaurants, and Shanghai, Seoul, and Osaka with one restaurant each.

Last year, the World’s 50 Best Restaurants featured one Hong Kong restaurant, Chairman (No. 24), which was the second-highest ranked restaurant in Asia, after Tokyo’s Den (No. 20).

In addition, Hong Kong will host the 2023 Asia’s 50 Best Bars awards, which will feature a live ceremony on July 18. The event is expected to be the first large-scale gathering of Asia’s bar community since the outbreak of the Covid-19 pandemic in early 2020.
