Hong Kong Tramways and the Family Council are organising unlimited free tram rides for all passengers on all routes on Hong Kong Island on May 14 to celebrate International Day of Families, which falls on May 15.

In addition, Hong Kong Tramways will also introduce The But’s Tram, which will showcase the Family Council’s cartoon character mascots. The tram will travel across Hong Kong Island to spread the family-forward message of “marital happiness and harmony”.

In addition, passengers who use the MTR’s train, light rail, and bus services on May 13 and 14 will get 50% off their fares as part of the rail corporation’s Thank You Days initiative. Passengers who use Octopus cards on the MTR, Light Rail and MTR Bus, or QR codes on the MTR heavy rail network are eligible for the discounted fares.

Train frequencies on seven MTR lines — the Island Line, South Island Line, Tsuen Wan Line, Kwun Tong Line, Tuen Ma Line, East Rail Line and Disneyland Resort Line — will be enhanced to 2.8-6 minutes for most of the day this weekend. More coupled-set light rail vehicles will also run in anticipation of higher passenger traffic on these days.
