The latest edition of the Top 500 Bars was revealed in Paris on Sunday, and it features 11 Hong Kong bars. The top-ranking bar from the SAR for 2023 is Coa, which took the No. 23 spot and topped the Asia’s 50 Best Bars List for 2023. Sydney bar Maybe Sammy is the No. 1 bar in the world this year, while Singapore’s Jigger & Pony was the highest-ranking establishment in Asia at No. 5.
The other Hong Kong bars that made the list are Penicillin (No. 42), DarkSide (No. 69), The Aubrey (No. 90), Argo (No. 105), The Pontiac (No. 112), Quinary (No. 144), Mostly Harmless (No. 191), Tell Camellia (No. 246), Mizunara: The Library (No. 299) and The Old Man (No. 371). Earlier this year, seven of these venues also made it to the Asia’s 50 Best Bars list, and four of them were included in the 51-100 rankings.
The Top 500 Bars list used AI to compile data from more than 2,000 sources online in more than 20 languages, as well as the opinions of experts, journalists and influencers, and rankings, reviews on platforms, social media, and search engines.
Last year, 20 Hong Kong bars were included in the list. The venues that dropped out of the rankings this year are The Wise King, The Diplomat, Foxglove, Ozone, Daily Tot, Dr. Fern’s Gin Parlour, Room 309, Caprice Bar, and PDT.
