The Kindergarten section is helmed by Ms Christine Leung, who was raised in New York and holds various qualifications from universities in the US and here in Hong Kong. With more than a decade of experience as an educator in the early childhood education sector, Ms Leung takes on the administrative and leadership role aside from teaching to continually strive to improve the school and provide exceptional education services to the school community.

“I enjoy being around children and I love to guide both families and teachers on how to work with children at such an important developmental age. I believe that every child has the ability to learn if they are in the right environment,” says Ms Leung.

At HKCA Po Leung Kuk School, the well-being and intellectual growth of every student is at the centre of the school’s ethos and principles from the early years through primary. “For the Kindergarten section in particular, we promote children’s curiosity, wonder, and exploration. We also believe in the importance of play since it fosters children’s innate desire to learn and imagination, which leads them to naturally acquire knowledge and skills, and most importantly, an understanding of the world,” explains Ms Leung.

The IB Primary Year Programme offers an inquiry-based, transdisciplinary curriculum framework that builds upon conceptual understanding, its strong student-centred approach means that students are agents of their own learning and they take responsibility and ownership throughout their learning process.

With reference to the IB PYP curriculum framework, HKCA Po Leung Kuk School facilitates learning through inquiry and different Approaches to Learning (ATL). These include communication, social skills, self-management, researching and thinking skills, all of which encourage active learning and empower children to become self-regulated and independent learners.

“Besides developing knowledge and conceptual understandings, children also gain relevant skills and learn about the attributes of the IB Learner profile, which are Inquirers, Knowledgeable, Thinkers, Communicators, Principled, Open-minded, Caring, Risk-takers, Balanced, and Reflective. We truly believe these core values will make a strong impact in our students’ lives, their communities, and beyond,” says Ms Leung.
