For most women, pregnancy is a fun and exciting time, full of joy and anticipation as you await the arrival of your little one. However, the reality of staying true to one’s sense of style can be a frustrating experience when faced with one of those mornings when nothing from your formerly fashion-forward wardrobe seems to fit your growing bump.

A visit to the usual baby stores often yields outfit options more suited to lounging at home than heading to the office, and frankly, at times even the casual maternity clothes available can feel a bit frumpy and old-fashioned. Working mama of two Reika Shetty saw the need for a different kind of maternity shop in Hong Kong when she realized what a struggle it was for her to find fashionable yet functional clothing while pregnant. Thus, Mayarya (named for her two children, Arya and Maya), was born.

With shops located in Sheung Wan and The Mira Mall, Mayarya strives to be more than just another maternity shop. The boutique’s concept is “bump friendly”, in that while they do carry well known maternity brands from around the world (such as Rosie Pope, Isabella Oliver, Ingrid & Isabel, and Ripe Maternity), the pieces are carefully chosen to mirror current and classic fashion choices that you would choose even if you weren’t expecting.

Many of the styles are easy to wear both throughout and after pregnancy (such as flattering wrap and maxi dresses, or Paige Premium jeans with such cleverly hidden side panels your friends will wonder how on earth you’ve stayed in your regular clothes your whole pregnancy), and some of the brands carried (Umgee) are not even actual maternity labels, though are flowing enough to accommodate a medium-sized bump. Prepping for a babymoon? Cute swimwear is in stock year round, including maternity bikinis for proud mamas to be wanting to bare their bumps. The next addition to the Mayarya collection, scheduled to arrive later this month, is a line of stylish maternity work-out wear not available anywhere else in Hong Kong.

On top of some fantastic wardrobe staples, Mayarya has new mama essentials like Bebe Au Lait nursing covers, as well as the full line of all-natural Erbavia mama and baby skincare products. Since we all know a great wardrobe starts with a good foundation layer, Mayarya has a section dedicated to pregnancy-friendly bras and knickers, including a wide selection of sexy but practical underwear from popular labels like Hot Milk and Hanky Panky (perhaps the most comfortable non-pregnancy undies for pregnant women ever!) And of course every fashionable mama needs a fab baby bag – the Timi & Leslie styles carried here are diaper bags in disguise; we think you might even be able to get Dad to carry them.

As if the amazing product selection weren’t reason enough to plan a shopping spree, Mayarya genuinely understand what a busy and sometimes stressful time pregnancy can be, and believe that shopping for maternity wear should be a fun experience, not one that adds to the angst. With this in mind, the boutiques offer a unique level of complimentary customer service that truly goes above and beyond. For mamas with long office hours, all it takes is a phone call to have the staff meet you at either Mayarya location to open up early (or stay past closing) so that you can shop on your own schedule. Should transportation be an issue, don’t fret – private car service (complete with infant and toddler car seats) can be arranged to pick you up from home or work, and drop you off again. Finally, if morning sickness or doctor mandated bed rest has you housebound, Mayarya staff will bring their collection of clothes to you so that you can try on outfits in the comfort of your own home!
