The MTR Corporation announced the new fare chart for 2023/24 will take effect on 25 June (Sunday), with over 90% of fares having an upward adjustment of HK$0.4 or less, as revealed earlier in March.

The Corporation will continue to offer different frequent commuters’ tickets. The prices of “City Saver”, “Tuen Mun – Nam Cheong Day Pass” and “Monthly Passes” will be adjusted starting from July. Passengers using these tickets can save around 30% on fares compared to using Adult Octopus.

In addition, the Corporation will continue to provide interchange discount with Green Minibus (GMB) for passengers of over 500 designated GMB routes. The discount will be increased from $0.3 to $0.5 starting from the fourth quarter of 2023. The “Early Bird Discount Promotion” has also been extended for one year till 31 May 2024.

Another “Thank You Day” will be held on 19 August (Saturday), offering a half-fare discount to thank passengers for their support. To ensure that the accumulative pool of “Service Performance Rebate” amount from the previous year is fully rebated to passengers, the Corporation has arranged four “Thank You Days” on 8, 9 April and 13, 14 May respectively this year, with another one to be held on 19 August.

During the “Thank You Day”, passengers can enjoy a 50% fare discount for every trip with their Octopus on the MTR, Light Rail and MTR Bus, or when they travel with a QR code on the MTR heavy rail network (East Rail Line First Class Premium, Airport Express and MTR Feeder Bus are excluded from the offer).

Other than MTR, several other Hong Kong public transportation operators also hiked prices this year. Star Ferry has applied new rates on its Central-Tsim Sha Tsui and Wan Chai-Tsim Sha Tsui routes since April, while five Hong Kong bus operators will increase fares from June 18, with further changes to be made for the toll on all three cross-harbour tunnels in Hong Kong in August.
