The Hong Kong government announced that Novotel Century Hong Kong in Wan Chai will join the eighth cycle of Designated Quarantine Hotels (DQHs) for overseas travellers. In addition, Hong Kong Ocean Park Marriott Hotel in Wong Chuk Hang will provide additional rooms for the DQH scheme for the eighth cycle. Both hotels will accept bookings from July 27 onwards for the eighth cycle period of August 1 to October 31, 2022.

Novotel Century was a part of the current seventh cycle DQH scheme that ends on July 31, but was later reallocated as a quarantine hotel for air crew of Cathay Pacific and the airline’s subsidiaries. Hong Kong Ocean Park Marriott Hotel was also a late addition to the seventh cycle. According to the hotel’s website, only the Pier Wing and Marina Wing are currently earmarked for international arrivals, while other areas of the hotel are open for regular bookings.

Authorities announced the eighth cycle of DQHs in June, which at the time included about 23,000 rooms across 62 hotels. Since then, other hotels were added to the cycle, and the latest additions mean that there are now 26,200 DQH rooms across 68 hotels in Hong Kong.

At present, international arrivals must spend a minimum of seven days at a DQH as part of a government-mandated quarantine period. However, there are reports that authorities may introduce a week-long split quarantine arrangement, in which overseas travellers spend the first three or four days after their arrival in Hong Kong at a DQH and the remaining days in home isolation.
