Ocean Park Hong Kong held birthday celebrations for Ying Ying and Le Le, the park’s two giant pandas, who turn 18 years old this August.

The park marked the occasion by getting two icy cakes made out of the panda pair’s favourite flavours — bamboo, purple sweet potato, carrot, and pear juice. The peach-orange-coloured cakes had forest-green age toppers made out of ice lollies.

Ying Ying, the female panda, and Le Le, the male, arrived in Hong Kong in 2007 as gifts from Beijing. However, despite making attempts to mate naturally since 2010, the pair have not yet produced any offspring.

The park had two other giant pandas — An An and Jia Jia — who came to the SAR in 1999. The pair were known as the oldest giant pandas captivity

Jia Jia was euthanised in 2016, and An An was put down in 2022, because of their failing health.
