THANN Sanctuary Spa – Serenity for the Senses
The Thann Sanctuary Spa, with its soothing light and warm wood furnishings, is a welcome little oasis in the heart of Hong Kong, located in the World Commerce Tower on Canton Road (just near the Star Ferry Terminal). After a busy Christmas period, and a few too many parties and late nights, it was time to take some time out and try and recharge the batteries for the new year.
Although the spa is on the small side, with only four treatment rooms, the service is excellent. I was welcomed very warmly and enjoyed a green tea to sip while filling out the client questionnaire. It is worth noting that you should probably visit the bathroom before the start of the treatment, as the only facilities are outside the main spa on a hallway shared with other beauty brands.
All therapists at the spa are highly trained at other Thann Spas and exude the Thai warmth and hospitality for which the country is renowned. The carefully considered design of the spa really feels like a little Thai Sanctuary from the moment you step in the door.
I enjoyed a 90 minute Thann Signature Massage, which utilised deep tissue treatment with massage oil to help induce relaxation and work away tension. After selecting my oil and taking a quick shower, it was time to relax and enjoy the scents of the lemongrass and kaffir lime oil that was wafting around the room.
My therapist used the very effective Thai technique of using thumb, forearm and elbow pressure to relieve knots and tension. Although I asked for a medium pressure, there were points that were too firm, so ensure you communicate with your therapist to achieve the pressure that you are looking for. Throughout the massage, my therapist was able to hone in on the areas that really needed work, namely my back and shoulders, and combined the elements of relaxation with deep tissue massage. Massages are either solely about relaxation, or focus so much on relieving knots and tightness that it’s a painful experience, but the Thann Signature Massage was an effective combination of both techniques and afterwards I felt energised and my muscles felt stretched and relaxed.
Overall Verdict
Thann Sanctuary Spa offers top-notch service and high quality products and therapists. The spa itself is a little on the small side, but it is warm and welcoming and offers a good menu of treatments.
