What’s Different About The Fresh Supply Company?

Have you ever stood in a Hong Kong supermarket holding a sad, limp looking bag of lettuce and wondered whether it was really worth the high price tag? As a parent, I want my kids to eat fresh fruit and veg that has high nutritional value, and I get frustrated that this is such a challenge here in HK.

The Fresh Supply Company are relative newcomers to the food delivery scene and promise that by getting their produce direct from their suppliers to your home – without days of hanging around on supermarket shelves – you’ll get fresher tasting, and longer lasting, fruit and veg.  They also deliver restaurant quality meats, imported seafood and a selection of deli items – and they’re adding new products to their range all the time. Sounds great to me, so when they asked the HK Hub to review their service I was excited to give it a try.

Order & Delivery

The website is attractive and simple to navigate, even on my phone. There’s a mixture of local and imported produce, and a decent organic selection too, I found everything I needed easily. I was surprised to find some good deals on price and swapped out some of my usual picks to take advantage of this.

If you’re short on time, or an adventurous cook, then you can choose a weekly subscription crate packed with a selection of their freshest produce. The website features some delicious looking recipe ideas to inspire you.

Someone must be at home to receive the delivery to ensure freshness, and delivery is free when you spend over $398. If you prefer you can pick up from their store in Wong Chuk Hang instead. Once I placed my order I received an email to confirm the delivery slot.

It happened that my kids were home when the boxes arrived, cue great excitement, they love deliveries of any kind (okay, so do I!) The packaging was solid, the produce well packed and looking fresh and colourful. A couple of bananas were bruised though, so I emailed The Fresh Supply Company and within 15 minutes they got back to me and arranged for replacements to be sent out. I love that kind of customer service.

How Fresh Is It?

The freshness of the salad leaves stood out (and so did the price). I got a couple of different varieties and they’ve lasted well at home and are still looking and tasting good a week later. In general the veg all had plenty of flavour. My fellow expats may understand when I say the carrots actually tasted of carrot, and the apples like apples (unlike some of our bland HK supermarket versions).

My kids especially loved the sweet, perfectly ripe, mangoes. Generally the fruit was good quality and tasty but was gone in 60 seconds thanks to my fruit loving children, so I can’t comment on its staying power.

Overall, I will definitely be becoming a regular customer, and next time I’ll be trying the meat, particularly the steaks.
